Turkey has sought to build a multi-billion-dollar energy pipeline to Israel.
Turkey's Turcas Holding has submitted a bid for the construction of a 470-kilometer pipeline between Israel and Turkey. Executives said the $2.5 billion offer would transport natural gas from Israel's new offshore reserves to Turkey and the rest of Europe.
Under the offer, Turcas, based in Istanbul, would assume responsibility for any Turkish crisis with Israel. Over the last three years, the government of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan suspended military and most political cooperation with Jerusalem.
The pipeline, designed to operate under the Mediterranean Sea, was meant to transport up to 16 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. Turcas faces another Turkish company, Zorlu Group, in the pipeline project.
